I’ve always found that once you’re established in a field or an area then we’re often reluctant to try something else because we’re afraid we’ll suck at it or for some reason believe we need to be an expert in it straight away. We start treating it like a heavier load than it needs to be and completely lose sight of the journey.

Does this sound familiar?

I regularly ask myself am I treating this like a heavier load than it needs to be particularly when I’m outside of my comfort zone and need to remind myself to embrace being an amateur because the standard I have built up in my head is the end goal, not the beginning.

One book I’ve been reading that has helped me stop feeding this ideal of perfectionism has been Show your work!” by Austin Kleon. Aamir bought this for me last year and I must admit I hadn’t even touched it until recently but I honestly regret not reading it sooner. The quote that quite literally resonated with me was:

“Carving out a space online where you can express yourself and share your work, is still one of the best investments you can make with your time”

It inspired me to finally get myself out there and get this blog I’ve been meaning to do for over a year now off the ground. I would definitely recommend reading this there are several takeaways that everyone can benefit from whether you’re a creative soul or business-driven.

So remember whatever you’re working on try not to perceive it as starting again rather shift your mindset, It’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter!
